New Garden Share for SO41 area

Transition Lymington have started to set up a local Land Share scheme for the SO41 area. So far we have been offered a garden in central Lymington and are looking for a gardener ideally within walking or cycling distance of the garden.

Plot details: There is currently approximately 5 x 6m grass area plus an additional 5 x 2m clearable area (brambles and shrubs) so some work is neccessary to prepare the land for growing vegetables. A photo is attached. The garden owner is hoping for…

How did your free fruit trees do this year?

It's coming up to a year since New Forest Food distributed lots of apple and pear trees..... How did yours do? I had a pear tree which looked quite good and had plenty of leaves but no fruit. I've heard ridiculous claims of bountiful produce from others......looking forward to hearing from you!

Streetbank: Skill share

Although its not strictly food related, i thought some of you may be interested in StreetBank, a similar movement to FreeCycle, it allows you to advertise items that you wish to lend out, give away for free, or skills and services you are offering. Unfortunately, there are no other members within a mile radius of pennington, so i am hoping to recruit all eco-centric's in the local area.
Enjoy :)

Need space to grow? visit Landshare!

I recently discovered Landshare, an online portal that connects people who need space to grow, with those who have land. Could be incredibly useful resource in gaining more growing space across the new forest!

The Big Lunch!

The Big Lunch was launched by the Eden Project in 2009. Thousands of

events have taken place all around the UK and a whopping million people

have participated each year since its begginings, 3 years ago.

The Big Lunch is a day to celebrate neighbourliness across the UK by having lunch with your

community – in a park, school playground, synagogue, mosque, communal

garden or even better, in the street – just about anywhere you can get

together and enjoy meeting,… Continue

Dorset & Forest Farmers' market, Brockenhurst

We called in at the farmers' market at Brockenhurst today. The veg, fruit etc on the Sopley stall all looked wonderful. We found it difficult not to buy at least one of everything! Couldn't resist a Romansco or the coloured carrots even though they weren't on our shopping list. The bread on the Cottage Loaf Bakery stall was tempting too (& we didn't resist that either.) It wasn't very busy when we were there but a large group of donkeys tried to come into the Hall just as we were leaving.… Continue

GREEN SPACE

"GREEN SPACE" is a local food and sustainability project; to install a community allotment and growing space.

The idea was coined by myself and Michael Parsons, two young enviromentalists in the lymington area. We approached a voluntary project in the area The EDGE Project, and the idea was quickly put into motion. After presenting the idea to ArtSway, it was approved and we started to make plans for installing the garden.

The Green space garden will include an interactive,… Continue

We like cheese!

I tried the cheese from the Fernhill Cheese Company and went back for more! Soft, creamy and fresh, the children liked it too. Worth stopping at their stall at Lymington Saturday Market just opposite St Thoma's Church.
