Some Allotments available in East Boldre

Yes, you heard right. If you live in the Parish of East Boldre or in a an adjoining Parish, there are some allotments available.

However, be warned, they are big plots of land - 1/4 or 1/8 or 1/16 of an acre each!

Polytunnel Frame - Free to a good home

Some neighbours of mine in Ashurst have got a frame for a 30ft polytunnel that they want to get rid of. It has the hoops but no side struts (could easily be improvised using canes). The cover has rotted away but Alan (my neighbour, who used to run a market garden) says they can be purchased for around… Continue

Vegetable and Fruit - Stories for children

My children used to love this book, its called Eddie's Garden and how to make things grow. If you are thinking of planting beans, pumpkins, flowers, carrots etc.. this book really inspires, and so does Eddie's little sister Lily!

Another favourite of mine is the Enormous Turnip. You can buy a book, or even have it read on line at the BBC…

Wool / Fleeces

I have just had my Zwartbles sheep sheared, and apart from some taken by the local guild of spinners, there is no market for the fleeces (approx 10). The wool is of good quality and in shades of brown through to black - someone must have a use for it? If so please get in touch.

Vienna - a Radish well worth growing

Usually, I grow French Breakfast radishes (do the French really eat Radishes for breakfast?) but, back in March I sowed some of T&M's 'Vienna' as something different to try.
I'm really impressed, they are claimed to get as large as golf balls yet remain solid and not pithy and it's all true, they are sweet and crunchy even when a bit bigger than golf balls. Sadly they are F1 hybrids so we won't be able to save seed but T&M's veggie seeds are half price at present so I'm going to…

We like cheese!

Posted by Margaret K Marsh on April 9, 2013 at 10:42 0 Comments

I tried the cheese from the Fernhill Cheese Company and went back for more! Soft, creamy and fresh, the children liked it too. Worth stopping at their stall at Lymington Saturday Market just opposite St Thoma's Church.
