Wheat/Maize, Cheap food for chickens

Does anyone know of local sources of farm wheat or maize for livestock? I would like to fatten up some spare Orpington cockerels, but feed is very expensive. I used to be able to get cheaper wheat direct from a small farm but he has given up.Failing that, would anyone like to set up a feed buying group? I used to buy it in by the tonne but access issues stopped delivery (the driver demolished the gatepost!)  If someone with better lorry access would host a delivery we could all benefit from…See More

Why do you think local food production is important?
Food should be seasonal, fresh, and relevant, and not overproduced so there is waste. Food should also taste of something, and produced in a sensible way, not forced or engineered against natural systems.

Hi Sharon

Many thanks for your offer.  It would be great if you could help out but I've run out of complementary tickets I'm afraid.  Are you coming to the Show anyway?  If so and you'd like to pop in for an hour or two at the stand there'll be plenty to do - the details of what I'm planning are at http://newforesttransition.ning.com/profiles/blogs/help-needed-at-new-forest-show-1

Do let me know what you think...and many thanks again

We like cheese!

I tried the cheese from the Fernhill Cheese Company and went back for more! Soft, creamy and fresh, the children liked it too. Worth stopping at their stall at Lymington Saturday Market just opposite St Thoma's Church.
