Dying apple tree

Hi can any one give advice.   The leaves on my old apple tree (may have been planted in 1907) are turning yellow and dropping off.  I'm guessing its because of the cold winter/dry spring.  Does any one have any advice as to how to save it???? Thanks Debby DebbySee More

Tree planting

Posted on December 10, 2009 at 16:04 0 Comments

Great idea and great day (apart from nearly losing my welly in the mud and learning how to surf on the wooden boards I'd put down on the paths/rivers).

Really hope they will take, and can't wait to sit at my allotment and pick some pears and apples.

Great stuff

When can I eat my chard?

Posted on June 15, 2009 at 14:32 2 Comments

Hi. my chard is now looking great - big fat leaves and red stem. Do I leave them to grow taller or should I cut them when they are still quite young and presumably not so tough? Also my leeks in their pots are beginning to divide, but are still looking like threads - when on earth do I put them in the ground?

I've put the leeks in small pots and at the moment they look like pieces of string defying gravity.

The chard went straight into the ground about 3 weeks ago and I can now tell which is weed and which is chard - the chard has red stems and the first leaves to come through are crinkly as you would expect. Now I have to think of weeding.

The baby… Continue

Hi Debby - you hadn't put 'competition' as one of the tags for any of the photos. I've amended that. It seems to take an hour or so after that before they show up in the group that you get to following the link on the home page...fingers crossed! Richard
