Just read Charles's article - really interesting. I know that with this rain the last thing any one should do is even walk on the soil let along start digging. Thanks for that. Debby

Hi richard - I think its too late to sow green manure now _ the days are too short. The best thing is to cover them with old carpet/newspaper/straw, anything that will exclude light so you'll deter the weeds growing. It will also protect your soil...

When can I eat my chard?

Hi. my chard is now looking great - big fat leaves and red stem. Do I leave them to grow taller or should I cut them when they are still quite young and presumably not so tough? Also my leeks in their pots are beginning to divide, but are still looking like threads - when on earth do I put them in the ground?

Hi Debby - you hadn't put 'competition' as one of the tags for any of the photos. I've amended that. It seems to take an hour or so after that before they show up in the group that you get to following the link on the home page...fingers crossed! Richard
