eat local, grow local
Tell me more……
Well, there are many good reasons for choosing local food and drink. Amongst other things it…. • Supports local businesses and producers • Helps communities to come together • Gets more people involved in growing fruit and veg • Cuts down on food miles and • Helps the area to become more sustainable in the long termOk – so what can I do?
We’d like you to do all sorts of things depending on your situation, time availability etc… • Look for and buy more local produce • Tell us what’s good and not so good about that (eg better taste but hard to find, or not enough • Get involved in growing food – maybe in your garden, on an allotment or in a community garden • Help others to learn how to grow – maybe working with a school or a community group • Share your favourite seasonal food recipes • Try out ways to reduce your food wasteYou keep saying ‘we’ – who’s doing all this?
The New Forest Food Challenge is a project run by the New Forest Transition Hub. We believe that by taking the kind of actions we want through the Food Challenge you can help to prepare the New Forest to meet the demands that the future will bring helping it to reduce its carbon emissions and lower its overall energy use. In other words it can begin to move us towards more sustainable lifestyles. We look forward to hearing from you.The New Forest Transition Team
